Discipleship
Sunday school classes are available for children, youth and adults. Our pre-school class uses the “Rock Solid” curriculum. The elementary class uses the “One-Room Sunday School” material. Both groups study Old Testament stories in the fall and New Testament stories in the winter and spring. They combine in the summer, studying the Old Testament through the “One-Room Sunday School.” The youth class, for grades 6 – 12, is currently using the “Faith in Motion” curriculum.
There are three adult classes. The Good News class uses various video studies. They are currently reading Ellsworth Kalas’ Christmas from the Back Side. The Couples for Christ class uses the Adult Bible Studies from the United Methodist Publishing House. The Young at Heart class uses the Adult Study lessons from Scripture Press.
There is a nursery available for infants and toddlers during the Sunday school hour. Vacation Bible School (VBS) for children age 3 – 6th grade is usually held for a week during the month of July. In recent years we have worked cooperatively with Loudonville, Lakeville and Bigelow United Methodist Churches.
Covenant Discipleship is an accountability group which meets to encourage and challenge one another in living the Christian faith. Groups are modeled after the early Methodist class meetings. We currently have two women’s groups and one men’s group which meet weekly.
Our scouting ministry now includes Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and the new Extreme Sports Explorer group. We also have a Girl Scout troop which meets in our building.
Fellowship
A variety of fellowship activities are held throughout the year at Nashville UMC including: All Daughters’ and All Sons’ events, a community picnic, and pot luck dinners. This ministry also coordinated meals following funerals and visits the sick and home-bound members of the congregation.
Missions
Our mission projects serve the Nashville community and beyond. Recent activities include: passing out school supplies to local children, packing Thanksgiving baskets for needy families, supporting the Lakeville UMC’s food pantry, leading worship at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Loudonville, and providing meals for the Habitat for Humanity’s work crews.
We have also served supper at the All God’s Children UMC in Mansfield, completed construction projects at the Nehemiah Mission in Cleveland, rang the bell for the Salvation Army, traveled to Indiana to help with flood relief and to Cuba to provide training for pastors and church leaders.
Worship
It takes many volunteers to lead our weekly worship services each Sunday morning. Volunteer opportunities exist for greeters, ushers, liturgists (worship leaders), acolytes (candle lighters), singers, bell ringers, storytellers, lay speakers and media operators. In addition to the traditional service for adults, we offer a children’s worship experience for those in kindergarten – 5th grade. A nursery is also available for infants, toddlers and pre-school children.
Wednesday is church night at Nashville UMC. We begin at 4:30 PM with our prayer ministry. Come and join Madison’s bells at 6:00 PM or the adult choir at 7:00 PM and make a joyful noise to the Lord.
